The five moves that matter

Trim, split, text, music, export. Learn those five and you can make almost any short video: trim the dead air off the start and end of each clip, split clips to cut mistakes out of the middle, add captions, lay music underneath, and export.

Everything else — transitions, effects, filters — is decoration. Videos fail from rambling content and inaudible audio far more often than from missing sparkle.

Captions are not optional anymore

A large share of social video is watched with the sound off. CapCut's auto-caption feature transcribes your speech in a few taps; always skim the result, because it mishears names and jargon with confidence.

Keep captions inside the central area of the frame so platform interfaces don't cover them.

Audio makes or breaks it

Viewers forgive shaky footage but not muffled speech. Record in a quiet room, speak closer to the phone than feels natural, and use CapCut's volume controls to keep music well under your voice — around a fifth of the voice level is a reasonable starting point.

Export settings and the fine print

Export at 1080p for social platforms; higher resolutions mostly cost you upload time. Check the current terms around the free tier and any watermark or licensing rules for music, since these change and matter if you publish commercially.
